Profile

I'm a student with a strong interest in computers and practical IT. I spend much of my free time building and troubleshooting PCs, running Linux, managing home servers and NAS systems, configuring networks, and hosting game servers for friends.

I usually learn by picking a project and working through whatever goes wrong. This has given me practical experience with Linux, networking, server administration, hardware troubleshooting and software configuration outside of a formal classroom environment.

I'm particularly interested in IT support, systems administration, networking, server management and technology-related projects.

Currently working on

  • Developing and maintaining my personal website, including HTML, layout and content
  • Running and maintaining a Linux-based home server and NAS
  • Hosting and managing Minecraft game servers, including plugins, networking and server configuration
  • Learning more about Linux administration, networking and server security
  • Building and troubleshooting PC hardware and experimenting with different hardware configurations

Featured project: Home NAS & server

An Ubuntu Server NAS with RAID storage, remote administration and multiple game servers running on one machine.

I set up and manage the system myself, including storage, networking, remote access, game server configuration and troubleshooting.

How I work

I learn by picking a project and working through whatever goes wrong. I prefer practical problems where I can investigate the cause, test possible solutions and work out how to fix the problem rather than simply following a guide.

Computing

  • PC building: Built and upgraded my own desktop PC
  • Hardware troubleshooting: Diagnosed hardware faults and investigated problems with components and system stability
  • Computer repair: Replaced faulty components and troubleshot hardware issues on my own systems
  • Hardware configuration: Experience configuring BIOS settings, storage, memory, power supplies and other PC components
  • Game and software modding: Configure and troubleshoot Minecraft mods, plugins, datapacks and resource packs, including diagnosing compatibility and configuration issues
  • Performance troubleshooting: Investigate CPU, GPU, RAM and software performance problems rather than simply replacing hardware
