Skills & experience
Most of my experience is hands-on and self-directed, built up through my own projects rather than formal roles. Below is how it splits across the three areas I'm interested in. The IT side is where I have the most practice so far, and I'm keen to build up the other two.
Digital & Marketing
What I've done
- Video editing: Edit and produce video in VEGAS Pro, including gaming and motorsport-related projects
- Graphic design: Create graphics and visual material for personal projects, websites and gaming communities
- Content creation and social media: Create and manage content for online communities and personal projects
- Microsoft Office 365: Use Word, PowerPoint and Excel for schoolwork, research, presentations and organising information
What I want to learn
Digital marketing and advertising done properly: planning content, understanding an audience and seeing what works. I haven't had a marketing role yet, and I'd like work experience to learn how it's done in practice.
Motorsport & Media
What I've done
- Sim racing: Race on my own dedicated rig (see my setup)
- Motorsport knowledge: Follow F1, F2, F3, IndyCar and Formula E closely, including how they're covered and promoted
- Motorsport video and graphics: Make edits and graphics for motorsport-related projects
What I want to learn
Motorsport media, broadcasting and communications. I'm particularly interested in how races are covered and how teams talk to their fans. I don't have professional experience here yet, and I'm looking for opportunities to get some.
IT & Technology
Linux, servers & networking
- Linux desktop and server: Regularly use Linux for personal projects and server administration
- Ubuntu Server: Built and maintain my own Ubuntu Server system
- NAS and RAID: Set up and maintain my own NAS, including RAID storage and remote administration
- Networking and port forwarding: Configured network services and connectivity for servers and other applications
- Game server administration: Hosted and maintained multiple Minecraft and other game servers for friends, managing Paper servers, plugins, permissions and updates
- Server troubleshooting: Diagnose crashes, configuration problems, performance issues and connectivity problems
- Linux command line: Comfortable using the terminal to administer systems, install software and troubleshoot problems
Computing & hardware
- PC building: Built and upgraded my own desktop PC
- Hardware troubleshooting: Diagnosed hardware faults and investigated problems with components and system stability
- Computer repair: Replaced faulty components and troubleshot hardware issues on my own systems
- Hardware configuration: Experience configuring BIOS settings, storage, memory, power supplies and other PC components
- Modding: Configure and troubleshoot Minecraft mods, plugins, datapacks and resource packs
- Performance troubleshooting: Investigate CPU, GPU, RAM and software performance problems rather than simply replacing hardware
Web & AI tools
- Website development: Build and maintain my own website using HTML and CSS
- AI tools: Use AI as a development and learning tool to help research problems, generate ideas, troubleshoot code and improve projects
Strengths
- Creative problem solving
- Fast, independent learner
- Hands-on, practical approach
- Persistent when troubleshooting difficult problems
- Comfortable experimenting and testing solutions
- Able to explain technical problems clearly
- Willing to learn unfamiliar software and systems
- Good at learning from mistakes and working out what went wrong
Work experience
Informal IT help
I regularly help friends and people around me with PC hardware, software, gaming setups and technical problems. This has given me experience explaining technical issues and troubleshooting problems on systems I didn't build myself.
Looking for
I'm looking for work experience or an apprenticeship in digital marketing, advertising, motorsport media and broadcasting, or IT. I'm interested in all of them, and I don't have formal work experience in any of them yet.
